Week of events intended to spur activism on Darfur genocide

About one dozen Cornell organizations have collaborated to organize "Darfur Awareness Week," March 26 to 30, in an effort to encourage activism on campus for the conflict in Darfur. A candlelight vigil on Ho Plaza, organized by the Cornell chapter of Amnesty International, started the week of events.

Darfur Awareness Week events include a March 27 screening of "Darfur Diaries," a documentary featuring interviews with Darfuri refugees, and a question-and-answer session with filmmaker Aisha Bain; a lecture by John Prendergast, a former policy adviser to Bill Clinton and currently senior adviser of the International Crisis Group and co-founder of the ENOUGH Campaign, March 28; a panel discussion on Darfur, March 29; and exhibits.

The student-organized, campuswide event was sponsored by Americans for Informed Democracy, Amnesty International, Cover Africa, Students for Tolerance, Awareness and Remembering Survivors, and numerous other groups.
