Cornell named a top adoption-friendly workplace by advocacy foundation

Cornell has been recognized by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption as one of the nation's "Top 100 Adoption-Friendly Workplaces." The listing recognizes employers offering outstanding employee programs for adoptive parents.

Cornell, which ranks 53rd on the list, allows up to six weeks off for adoptive-parent employees and up to $5,000 in financial assistance for employees who adopt children.

"We are honored to be included in the list," said Mary George Opperman, Cornell's vice president for human resources. "Cornell strives to create an inclusive workplace for all of its employees from all walks of life and all stages of life."

The foundation -- which was created by the late Dave Thomas, who was adopted as a child and later founded the Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers chain, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding permanent homes for the more than 140,000 children in North American foster-care systems who are waiting to be adopted.
