On Sept. 28, at the first Mosaic event held in Atlanta, a taste of Cornell hit Atlanta hard, sans the cold weather, at Villa Christina at Perimeter Summit. Man Bui '84 set the tone for the evening by reminding the group that they have a unique connection, and through that connection, have gathered proudly to call themselves Cornellians.

Cornell trustee Elizabeth Moore '75 spoke about the Minority Alumni Initiatives Implementation Committee. The initial Mosaic event -- held in spring 2005 at the Ithaca campus with the aim of celebrating diversity and advancing inclusion -- sparked an energy that continues, she said, and since then the committee has planned successful Mosaic events in other cities. She also spoke about the importance of ensuring that the Cornell legacy continues from generation to generation.

Kent L. Hubbell '67, Cornell dean of students, and Professor James Turner, founder of the Africana Studies and Research Center, addressed the gathering of more than 80 people. Hubbell updated Atlanta Cornellians about the new protocols that Cornell will take to ensure the safety of every student. Turner captivated the audience with a talk centered on the changing times at Cornell. The color of Cornell is changing, he said, and as a conscious group of diverse alumni, the group must pay attention to this change.
