Staff explore educational opportunities at annual event

For three hours July 16, Cornell staff members attending the 10th Annual Staff Educational Exploration Day wandered through G10 Biotech to learn about taking classes at area community colleges and at Cornell, earning graduate degrees and professional certificates and how to take advantage of resources available from Cornell University Library, Cornell Plantations, the Employee Assistance Program and much more.

Representatives from more than 30 organizations, including Cornell Cooperative Extension; the Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality; and the Cornell Wellness Program, were on hand to answer questions about their programs and give away freebies.

"I just picked up retirement information," said Mary Lou Mattoon, administrative assistant to the chair of Cornell's Department of Psychology. "I've been working here since '75. I come because it's always informative -- you can find out about classes, benefits -- all kinds of good stuff."

The event, which was sponsored by the Office of Human Resources and the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, also offered discounted lunches, opportunities to win more than 50 door prizes and a book exchange.
