April 2 workshop to aid parents helping children cope with separation and divorce

The Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality will sponsor the free and open workshop, Parents Apart: Parents Helping Children Cope with Separation and Divorce, April 2, noon-1 p.m., in 340 Duffield Hall.

The Parents Apart Program is a six-hour program offered through Cornell Cooperative Extension for parents who are separating or divorcing. In this noon workshop, Amanda Spaulding, a licensed clinical social worker and program coordinator for the Parents Apart program in Tompkins County, will provide an overview of some of the most important information taught at the longer program, including the importance of reducing parental conflict, the factors that a parent can control to help their child adjust, what to expect at different developmental ages/stages and how to listen to your child during this painful time.

The discussion will cover how to parent well when you are no longer together as a couple. Handouts with helpful information and tips will be provided.

To RSVP, e-mail Michelle Artibee at mla64@cornell.edu or call 255-5298.
