van Es wins national award for advancing inclusiveness

Cindy van Es, senior lecturer in applied economics and management at Cornell, is one of five faculty members in the nation to receive the new Inclusive Excellence Award for Accounting and Business School Faculty from Ernst & Young LLP.

She and the other four recipients were recognized for their "extraordinary efforts to advance inclusiveness" at their respective universities by "helping to create more diverse learning environments that will ultimately help their students succeed in today's global workforce."

Each winner has been awarded $7,500 to use toward efforts to impact and improve inclusiveness and diversity at their school.

Van Es was nominated by Cornell colleagues and students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for her leadership in directing the Business Opportunities in Leadership and Diversity (BOLD) Program, which coordinates leadership and diversity initiatives that enrich students' learning experiences, "while promoting a climate that values and appreciates inclusivity and a range of diverse personal attributes." The program supports such initiatives as a Leadership Certificate program, a student-inclusiveness programming board, minority book awards and the Outside the Box Speaker Series.

Representatives from Ernst & Young will host a celebratory reception for van Es at 5 p.m., Oct. 7, at the A.D. White House.
