Junior wins award in South Korea

Dae-Gyeong Kim '12 has won the Best Proposal Prize (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Award) at the Second Model Asian Union, held Nov. 8, in Incheon, South Korea. The prize was bestowed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the city of Incheon for Kim's presentation on political integration in Asia.

The Model Asian Union is a global event organized by the Asian Economic Community Forum and sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea. It brings students from around the world to share ideas and discuss issues related to Asian economic, political and cultural cooperation and integration.

Kim, who double majors in Asian studies and government, said he found it eye-opening that students who aspire to be the next generation of leaders in Asia have a strong attachment to the idea of one Asia and to the role of a strong multilateral institution in improving the economic and political status of Asia. He plans to use this insight in his senior government thesis, an analysis of multilateral diplomacy in East Asia.
