Public forum focuses on underage drinking challenges

Updates on outreach and awareness strategies tied to alcohol abuse and under-age drinking are the focus of the next Campus-Community Coalition forum, April 28, 7-8:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 402 N. Aurora St., Ithaca. The forum is open to the public.

Brief presentations about programs and strategies within the Ithaca City School District, Cornell, Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) and Ithaca College will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Other Ithaca-area community organizations will also be on hand to distribute literature and to serve as a resource on any given question, if needed.

At the outset of the April 28 forum, Ithaca College professor Joseph Cheng, whose daughter Victoria died unexpectedly in February at Ithaca College, where she was a first-year student, will make brief remarks about his family's tragedy.

The Campus-Community Coalition is led by staff members from Cornell, Ithaca College and TC3 and works collaboratively on shared challenges and interests. For more information, contact Coalition Chair Gary Stewart at 255-4666.
