New parking permits to take effect

Transportation Services has begun to mail new parking permits to all parking permit holders who pay via payroll deduction. Mailing these new permits is the first step in implementing the new parking plan introduced to the Cornell community in early May. The new hangtag permits are being sent through campus mail and should be displayed as soon as they are received; old permits must be discarded and will not be valid after July 15.

In an effort to simplify parking rules, several permit areas have been consolidated. The new permits replace their comparable current permits: current L permit holders will receive J permits, F and H permit holders will receive N, and K permit holders will receive O permits. Y permit holders will be converted to U permits when the Milstein Hall project is completed and the Sibley Hall lot is again available, sometime in late August. Because of this impending transition, Y permits are not being replaced at this time. All other letter designations remain the same.

Special parking locations and privilege indicators are no longer printed on parking permits. The new permit is valid in the area printed on the face of the permit and may have additional privileges according to the tier designation.

For more information, rates and a map of the parking lots appropriate for each letter and tier designation, see http://www.commuting.cornell.edu. Email transportation@cornell.edu with specific questions about permits and their respective parking privileges.
