Graduate student Kenneth Whelan dies

Memorial service for Ken Whelan

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 496 Main St., Medfield, MA. There will be a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a college fund for Whelan's two young sons, Liam and Miles, at www.everribbon.com.

Cornell President David Skorton issued the following message of condolence today:

I am sorry to report the loss of one of our Ph.D. students, Kenneth Thomas Whelan, who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. Ken was studying Policy Analysis and Management, and before that, Economics. As a beloved student, husband, father and son, he will be missed. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his wife, Jenny Lewis, and the couple's two small children, and to Ken's family, friends and colleagues.
