Cornell expands parking and transit options for retirees

A new university policy grants all Cornell retirees -- who are at least 55 years old with at least 10 years of credited service -- the option of either free OmniRide transit privileges, which provides full access to TCAT buses seven days a week, or a no-fee annual O parking permit, which allows parking in O, E and A areas. Retirees may also choose to purchase annual parking permits offered to employees, depending on eligibility and availability.

Cornell retirees continue to be able to ride TCAT buses free on weekdays in TCAT's zone one by showing their Cornell University ID card. Zone one includes the city of Ithaca, Cornell, Ithaca College, Kendal, the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport, Cayuga Medical Center, the Convenient Care Center and The Shops at Ithaca Mall (formerly Pyramid Mall).

All retirees can also request free, one-day O permits or purchase daily visitor parking permits at campus information booths.

In addition, 25-year retirees with a Cornell ID card that reflects that status, can request one book of 10 one-day Z permits per year at no cost (value $110).

Retirees who return to work at the university will have the same privileges and options as current employees, with the exception that they may still avail themselves of a no-fee annual O parking permit.

Retirees who need accessible parking have the same parking permit options and parking privileges as do employees requiring accessible parking.

Privileges for professors emeriti remain unchanged.

Cornell's Transportation Services and Division of Human Resources and Safety Services partnered to create these policies in consultation with the University Assembly and its Campus Infrastructure Committee, the Human Resource Council and the Cornell Retirees Association. The University Assembly unanimously endorsed these changes.

Retirees must show their ID cards to obtain the benefits listed above. Contact Commuter and Parking Services, 607-255-PARK, email transportation@cornell.edu or see http://www. transportation.cornell.edu for more information about parking options and prices.
