Dance concert to feature original student, faculty work

New dances by student and faculty choreographers will be presented May 3, 5 and 6 during the Mini-Locally Grown Dance Festival at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.

The May 3 and 5 concerts feature works by dance faculty member Jumay Chu and a dozen student choreographers who hail from Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States. Their individual styles -- including modern, post-modern and hip-hop -- are featured in solo pieces, duets, trios and one group dance.

On May 6, Indian dancer Durga Bor will perform ragas in collaboration with musician Max Buckholtz; this show will also feature new work by Hobart and William Smith Colleges faculty members.

An outdoor performance will take place at 7:15 p.m. May 3 and 5 on Bailey Plaza, in front of Bailey Hall.

All performances will take place at 8 p.m. in the Class of '56 Dance Theater at the Schwartz Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Schwartz Center box office, by calling 254-ARTS or at http://www.schwartztickets.com. Tickets for each performance are $4, plus a ticketing fee.
