Johnson

Penn State DuBois, a campus of Pennsylvania State University, will honor Stephen Philip Johnson, Cornell's vice president for government and community relations, with its Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Penn State DuBois Alumni Society Awards Banquet Nov. 15.

Johnson directs Cornell's legislative efforts and coordinates its involvement with government-focused higher education associations. He earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Penn State in 1967 and a master's degree in public administration from the Maxwell Graduate School of Syracuse University in 1969. Johnson has been working at the university since 1972 and advocating for Cornell to state and federal officials since 1984.

In his 41-year tenure at Cornell, Johnson has been closely associated with Cornell Cooperative Extension, state relations and federal advocacy. He serves on the board of Tompkins County Area Development; Excell Partners Inc., a regional economic development partnership focused on upstate New York; and the Tompkins County Public Library Advisory Council.
