Arts and Sciences dean search narrowed to four

Four finalists have been named in the search for a new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences following five months of meetings, interviews and deliberations. The candidates, who all have ties to the college, have been invited to meet with faculty and administrators on campus the weeks of March 4 and 11.

The finalists are:

  • Srinivas Aravamudan, M.A. '88, Ph.D. '91, professor of English and dean of the humanities at Duke University.
  • Laura Brown, the John Wendell Anderson Professor of English and vice provost for undergraduate education at Cornell.
  • Scott MacDonald '78, Ph.D. '86, the Stanford H. Taylor '50 Chair of the Sage School of Philosophy, the Norma K. Regan Professor in Christian Studies and professor of philosophy at Cornell.
  • Gretchen Ritter '83, professor of government and vice provost for undergraduate education and faculty governance, University of Texas at Austin.
