Cornell is No. 15 in QS World University Rankings

Cornell is No. 15 among the world’s top 800 universities, according to the 2013-14 QS World University Rankings, released Sept. 10. Considered among close to 3,000 institutions worldwide, Cornell was ranked No. 14 last year.
The annual rankings are compiled based on six indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, citations per faculty, international students and international faculty. This year, more than 62,000 academic and nearly 28,000 employer responses contributed to the rankings results.
In May, QS also published university rankings in individual subjects. Cornell’s agriculture programs, which the QS rankings file under “agriculture and forestry,” were ranked No. 3 this year.
In subject areas, Cornell made the top 50 in the following categories:
Arts and Humanities
- Philosophy: 42
- Modern languages: 27
- English language and literature: 21
Life sciences and medicine
- Medicine: 32
- Biological sciences: 16
- Agriculture and forestry: 3
Social sciences
- Statistics and operational research: 27
- Sociology: 25
- Politics and international studies: 21
- Law: 33
- Economics and econometrics: 22
- Accounting and finance: 39
- Communications and media studies: 40
Engineering and technology
- Computer science and information systems: 26
- Chemical engineering: 33
- Civil and structural engineering: 40
- Electrical and electronic engineering: 38
