Assemblies Update, Week of Nov. 18

Following are brief reports from the Student Assembly (SA), Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GPSA), Employee Assembly (EA) and University Assembly (UA). For more information, including meeting agendas, minutes and audio recordings, visit http://assembly.cornell.edu.

Recent meetings:

  • SA: Nov. 14. Updates were provided by the appropriations and community life committees; SACIDI and SUNY SA reps gave updates. University Registrar Cassie Dembosky gave a presentation about the changes in the academic calendar, and funding for HAVEN, Senior Week and Convocation was approved.
  • EA: Nov. 2. President David Skorton and Vice President Mary Opperman discussed improving employee engagement in the self-governance process; government funding and how Cornell staff may be affected if a federal budget deal is not made before additional sequestration takes place; and diversity and inclusion efforts for staff. A new Geneva campus representative was elected.
  • GPSA: Nov. 18. Barbara Knuth, vice provost and dean of the Graduate School, discussed some of the goals set by the Graduate School for this academic year and next in four key areas targeted for improvement: assessment and learning; student experience; field, faculty and staff support; and visibility. R4A (Resolution to Amend the GPSA Charter and Bylaws to Change the Term of Appropriations Committee Chair) and R5 (Recommendation for the Graduate and Professional Student activity fee for 2014-2016) were passed. And the activity fee for 2014-2016 was approved.
