Assemblies Update, Week of Feb. 24

Following are brief reports from the Student Assembly (SA), Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GPSA), Employee Assembly (EA) and University Assembly (UA). For more information, including meeting agendas, minutes and audio recordings, visit http://assembly.cornell.edu.

Recent meetings:

GPSA: Feb. 24 – Members discussed dental insurance for grads, and there was follow-up on workers compensation for grads. A vacant “at large” seat was filled.

UA: Feb. 25 – Members had an open discussion with President David Skorton and Assistant Vice President for University Communications Tracy Vosburgh regarding the timeline for campus carbon neutrality. They also heard annual reports from Police Chief Kathy Zoner and Judicial Administrator Mary Beth Grant. UA committees met to propose legislation pertaining to the TCAT budget shortfall; amend the Campus Code of Conduct related to responsible free expression on campus; and divestment from fossil fuels.

SA: Feb. 20 – Members met with Skorton and Vice President for Student and Academic Services Susan Murphy and discussed internationalization and financial aid. They passed R. 52 Developing a Mental Health Friendly Academic Evaluation Environment, which recommends the faculty handbook be modified to account for students stressed by nontraditional exams. Election materials were due Feb. 24; due to low turnout, the deadline is extended to Feb. 28.

Assemblies Leadership Breakfast: Feb. 26 - Skorton discussed the timeline for campus carbon neutrality and divestment.
