Peace Studies Program renamed Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies

To mark the 40th anniversary of Cornell's Peace Studies Program and to honor a professor who was instrumental in its success upon her "quasi" retirement, the program was renamed the Judith Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies as of July 1.

Reppy, professor emerita of science and technology studies and a weapons expert, has served in every leadership role of the program, participated in almost every research project the program has undertaken and has mentored many of the program's graduate and undergraduate students.

"We wanted to acknowledge Judith's leading role in organizing the program's research agenda over decades," said Jonathan Kirshner, professor of government and director of the Reppy Institute. "She pioneered the program that brought scientists into the field of security studies."

The Reppy Institute is an interdisciplinary program devoted to research and teaching about war and peace, arms control and disarmament, and instances of collective violence. Reppy will serve as associate director of the institute and direct graduate studies for the minor field of peace studies and peace science.
