Minnie, music and more: Cornellians ‘chill on the quad’
By Grace DePaull
More than 400 Cornellians gathered on the Ag Quad July 30 at the Cornell Summer Wellbeing Adventure “Chillin’ on the Quad Party,” which invited employees, students and retirees to relax, catch up with colleagues and make new connections while enjoying music and outdoor activities.
The afternoon included lawn games and music performances by Jim Sheridan, Cornell retiree; Beth Korson, CLASP program coordinator; and Jeremy Faulk, doctoral researcher. Participants had free iced coffee courtesy of Gimme Coffee, browsed Hortus Forum’s plant sale and even visited with Minnie, the College of Veterinary Medicine’s miniature horse.
The celebration kicked off the final week of the Summer Wellbeing Adventure & Photo Contest, which began earlier this summer and was open to all staff, faculty, students and retirees. Returning for its second year, the program encouraged Cornellians to enhance their well-being over three weeks by engaging in on- and off-campus activities aimed at finding joy both in and out of the workplace and classroom.
This year’s three-week program aligned with the principles of the Okanagan Charter and Cornell’s commitment to being a health-promoting campus. Each week focused on a particular theme: places, planet and people.
Coinciding with the final week’s emphasis on “people,” the afternoon on the Ag Quad allowed Cornellians to engage with one another, explore new places across campus and take a moment to refresh and rejuvenate from the busyness of academics and the workday.
This event was sponsored by Cornell Human Resources, Cornell Recreation Connection and Skorton Center for Health Initiatives.
