Special life insurance enrollment period begins April 15
By Nancy Doolittle
A special enrollment period, April 15-30, will allow Cornell staff and faculty to enroll in or increase their CIGNA group universal life insurance coverage and that of their spouses, same-sex partners or dependent children without evidence of insurability or medical underwriting.
Certain limits apply. Without evidence of insurability: Employees can enroll in or increase their coverage by one times the amount of their salary; spouses/same sex partners can enroll in or increase coverage up to $20,000 in $10,000 increments; and dependent children can be enrolled or increased up to an amount not to exceed $20,000, in $2,000 increments. Coverage exceeding these limits requires evidence of insurability or medical underwriting. The cap for employee coverage is 10 times the employee's base annual salary or $2 million, whichever is less; the cap for spouse/same-sex partners is $250,000.
CIGNA will mail the enrollment packet to the home address of all eligible employees.
