Volunteers needed for Cornell's Slope Day, May 6
By Nancy Doolittle
Slope Day, slated for May 6, needs volunteers to provide support and care for their fellow Cornellians.
The task of volunteers is not to police Libe Slope, but to help ensure that the last day of classes is safe and enjoyable.
Volunteers may select from among a variety of duties and two shift lengths. Volunteers are needed for four-hour shifts (so-called level 2 volunteers) and to a lesser extent, for two-hour shifts (level 1 volunteers).
Pay practices for Slope Day
Non-exempt staff members who are required to work the Slope Day event will be paid for all hours worked during the event, even if such hours do not coincide with their regularly scheduled work hours. Such time should be entered as "regular" in the time collection system.
If you are unsure whether you are assisting at Slope Day in a volunteer or in a required capacity, contact your supervisor, your local human resources representative or the Division of Human Resources (255-6894) for clarification.
Exempt staff who provide assistance during Slope Day in any capacity will receive their usual compensation.

Those who want to volunteer for Slope Day need supervisory approval for the paid release time from work if their shifts coincide with scheduled work hours. Hours spent volunteering outside of scheduled work hours will be without pay.
Staff/faculty volunteers are asked to submit an online application, where the dates, times and location for the training can also be accessed. Volunteers should plan to attend one of the training sessions to review their volunteer duties.
