Giuliani to help CU celebrate 143rd Graduation Weekend

Cornell will celebrate its 143rd Graduation Weekend, May 28-29, with about 6,000 graduates receiving their degrees. Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will give the Senior Convocation Address, Saturday, May 28, at noon, and Cornell President David J. Skorton will deliver the Commencement Address Sunday, May 29, at 11 a.m. Both events will be at Schoellkopf Stadium.

Giuliani served as mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, when his leadership won praise for calming the city in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Since bowing out of the race for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, he has worked at a law firm at which he is partner and at a security consulting business he founded. He also appears as a television political commentator.

The convocation ceremony also will feature an address by Senior Class President Michael Katz. In the event of severe or inclement weather, the event will be moved into Barton Hall, and admission is by ticket only.

Convocation and Commencement will be broadcast live on Ithaca's Time Warner Cable Channel 16, and the events will be streamed live on the Cornell website http://www.cornell.edu. The Commencement ceremony can be heard on WHCU radio (870 AM) starting at 11 a.m. The Commencement procession and ceremony can be viewed afterward on CornellCast at http://www.cornell.edu/video.
