Skorton named to NCAA Division I Board of Directors
The National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I Board of Directors elected Cornell President David Skorton and three others to its board for a four-year, unrenewable term beginning April 28.
Others recently elected are University of California-Riverside Chancellor Timothy White, Wright State President David Hopkins and South Carolina President Harris Pastides. The board is composed of 18 members, all presidents of universities.
The NCAA's core purpose is to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount.
The NCAA oversees 88 championships in 23 sports. There are more than 400,000 student-athletes competing in three divisions at more than 1,000 colleges and universities within the NCAA.
