Mary J. Miller '77 named assistant treasury secretary
Mary John Miller '77 was sworn in as assistant treasury secretary for financial markets April 29 by U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
Miller will lead the Office of Financial Markets (OFM), which reports to the Office of Domestic Finance at Treasury. The OFM issues regulatory recommendations for the government, analyzes congressional proposals to alter federal lending restrictions and participates in government efforts to deter counterfeit U.S. currency.
President Barack Obama nominated Miller for the post Oct. 5, 2009. She was a vice president of T. Rowe Price Group Inc., where she had worked since 1983. Before that she was a research associate for the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C.
A government major at Cornell, Miller, who grew up in Ithaca, earned a master's degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
