Four new Cornell University Police (CUP) officers -- Christopher Cady, Kyle Hollenbeck, Blair MacDonald and Eric Stickel -- were sworn in and officers Anthony Tostanoski and Scott Salino were promoted to sergeant in a Jan. 14 ceremony in the Taylor Room of the Statler Hotel.

Presiding over the ceremony was Kathy Zoner, deputy chief of CUP; she introduced Janet Shortall, associate director of Cornell United Religious Work, who gave the benediction.

"We never will forget the risk you take and the way you keep our campus a safe and good place to live and work," said Stephen Golding, executive vice president for Finance and Administration, in addressing the honored officers and the rest of Cornell's 54-member police force. "We hold you to a higher standard than many on campus and appreciate how you have delivered."

In presenting Tostanoski and Salino with their new badges, Zoner outlined their training, education and acts of exceptional initiative, bravery and community service. A high point of the event was the invitation to family members to pin shields onto the new officers.

"We are proud of you who have gone through a rigorous selection process that included high standards for police training, communication skills and respect for the special campus community that we serve," said Curt Ostrander, interim vice president for risk management and public safety and chief of CUP.

CUP is the law enforcement agency for the Cornell community. Officers are commissioned by New York state to enforce and make arrests for violations of federal, state and local laws and are empowered by Cornell to enforce its Campus Code of Conduct.
