Study the birds of spring
Take the edge off the long, cold winter by taking the annual Spring Field Ornithology course at the Lab of Ornithology, March 25 to May 17. New birders are welcome. There are no tests and no homework. Wednesday evening lectures cover such topics as using binoculars, identifying birds, bird song and courtship, and gardening for birds. Optional weekend field trips provide opportunities to put new learning into practice, with day trips to Derby Hill at the southern end of Lake Ontario, the Arnot Forest near Ithaca, Braddock Bay near Rochester and overnight trips to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge at the north end of Cayuga Lake and the Forsythe and Cape May National Wildlife Refuges in New Jersey.
