Contrary to popular notions, Daniel Boone hated coonskin caps, said Robert Morgan, a poet, fiction writer and professor in Cornell's Creative Writing Program, who discussed his Boone biography at the Cornell president's home, Sept. 25.

Morgan spoke and read from his book, the critically acclaimed "Boone: A Biography," at the first Literary Luncheon, a new series hosted by Professor of Molecular Physiology Robin Davisson, and her husband, Cornell President David Skorton.

More than 25 people attended the luncheon.

"The idea of the series is to celebrate our community's rich tradition in writing and letters by spotlighting the many writers, their creations and the literary life, and making them more accessible to a broader public," said Davisson.

The next luncheon, which is free and open to the first 25 Cornell or community members who e-mail special-events@cornell.edu, will feature Helena Maria Viramontes, Cornell creative writing professor and author of the 2007 novel "Their Dogs Came With Them," on Oct. 15.

The Literary Luncheon series is sponsored by the Office of the President.
