President Hunter R. Rawlings III on July 1 issued the following statement concerning the appointment of Dr. John W. Ryan as Interim Chancellor by the State University of New York Board of Trustees:

"I commend the State University Board of Trustees for its selection of John Ryan as Interim Chancellor. He typifies the qualities of academic and administrative leadership that are so necessary today in the increasingly complex world of higher education. We are fortunate to persuade him to come to the State of New York, and I look forward to welcoming him here at Cornell at the earliest possible opportunity."
