Troy Donahue, a American teen heartthrob from the '60s, will play Harry MacAfee, a father whose life is disrupted by teen idol Conrad Birdie, in the 1998 national tour of Bye Bye Birdie, at Cornell's Statler Auditorium on Feb. 28 at 8 p.m.

Tickets for Bye Bye Birdie, which is sponsored by the Cornell University Program Board, are on sale at the Willard Straight Hall Ticket Office and the Clinton House Box Office. All tickets are reserved seating and are $6 for Cornell students and $10 for the general public.

Bye Bye Birdie, a 1961 Tony Award-winning musical and a popular 1963 movie, features hit numbers such as A Lot Of Livin' To Do, One Last Kiss, Put On A Happy Face and Kids. It tells the story of an Elvis Presley-like rock-and-roll singer -- Birdie, played by Casey Marshall -- who is about to be inducted into the Army. As a publicity promotion, a "typical" teenage girl is chosen to give him one last kiss on the Ed Sullivan Show before he's fitted for fatigues.

Donahue, who plays the teenage girl's father in Bye Bye Birdie, is best remembered for his leading roles on the 1960s television seriesSurfside Six and Hawaiian Eye (opposite Connie Stevens). He is also known for his film work, including Imitation of Life (with Lana Turner) and A Summer Place (with Sandra Dee and Dorothy McGuire).

A veteran of over 40 Hollywood films, Donahue's other major screen credits include Parrish with Karl Malden, Susan Slade with Bert Convy and Lloyd Nolan, and Rome Adventure with Suzanne Pleshette. In recent years he starred in Grandview, U.S.A. with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and in John Waters' comedy classic Cry Baby with William Dafoe, Johnny Depp and Ricki Lake. He also was prominently featured in The Godfather, Part Two, directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
