Section of Judd Falls Road on Cornell campus to be closed permanently
By Linda Grace-Kobas
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced that Judd Falls Road from Route 366 to Campus Road on the Cornell University campus will be closed as of July 21.
The closure is part of a $2 million renovation project that will reconstruct Route 366 between the intersections of Pine Tree and Judd Falls roads. The bridge carrying Route 366 over Cascadilla Creek will be replaced and widened to accommodate four lanes of traffic. The intersection of Judd Falls Road and Route 366 will be moved 200 feet east of its existing location when it reopens in the summer of 2003.
A map of the closing location is available at http://www.aff.cornell.edu/maps/judd-falls-closure.jpg .
The section of road being closed will not be reopened to vehicular traffic. Instead, it will be transformed into a pedestrian/bicycle bridge and walkway over Cascadilla Creek that will connect to the Cornell campus.
The DOT's contractor for the project is Economy Paving Co. Inc. of Cortland.
Cornell officials recommend that drivers enter campus at the Tower Road Extension or via Hoy Road.
Bus routes are not expected to be affected by the closing.
