Cornell's agriculture college, labor school to hold open house Oct. 5

Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) will host an open house for prospective freshman students Saturday, Oct. 5.

The open house gives high school juniors and seniors and their parents the opportunity to meet admissions staff, faculty and current Cornell students, and to obtain an overview of the university and the academic programs. Admissions and financial aid information will be available.

A wide range of academic programs are offered within the two schools. In CALS, students can study animal sciences, applied economics and management, atmospheric science, biological and environmental engineering, biological sciences, biometry and statistics, communication, crop and soil science, education, entomology, food science, landscape architecture, natural resources, nutrition, horticulture, plant pathology, rural sociology and the science of Earth systems. In ILR, students learn about such workplace issues as protecting jobs, increasing productivity, computerization, worker participation, labor law, international labor relations, growing and shrinking labor markets and new methods of decision-making in business and government. Potential ILR students typically are interested in such subjects as sociology, history, economics, government and psychology as tools for helping people. Graduates go on to careers in business, labor, law and government. For information, see .

Students interested in attending the open house are required to preregister by Sept. 27, preferably online at http://www.openhouse.cornell.edu . Registration information for the open house is being mailed to guidance departments in all New York state high schools.
