Mulay

“India: The Story of Growth, Democracy and ‘Soft Power’” will be the topic when Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, India’s consul general in New York and representative to the United Nations, speaks at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at a Cornell Institute for Public Affairs colloquium.

In his talk, Mulay will discuss India’s economic growth, the nuances of Indian democracy and the dynamics of Indian “soft power” and the opportunities for the growth of the development sector in India. The ambassador will also share his views on the role of India as an emerging power in the South Asian security calculus.

Mulay is a career diplomat who has been with the Indian Foreign Service since 1983, having previous posts at Indian missions in Tokyo, Moscow, Port Louis (Mauritius) and Damascus. Before his U.N. assignment, he was high commissioner of India to Malé (Maldives).

An award-winning author with more than 15 books to his credit, Mulay has a keen interest in education, the environment (particularly water security) and socio-economic issues.

His talk in 233 Plant Science, sponsored by the Cornell Public Affairs Society, is open to the public free of charge with a reception to follow.
