Cornell to offer new graduate program in community and rural development
By Blaine Friedlander
Cornell University will offer a new graduate program in community and rural development beginning in the fall of 1997.
The one-year Master of Professional Studies program will provide training for mid-career decision-makers and practitioners who deal with the multi-faceted problems facing communities and rural areas.
"Skilled professionals in the field are facing critical challenges every day. This program helps them to meet those challenges with creative, innovative and up-to-date programs and solutions, " said Paul Eberts, Cornell professor of rural sociology and the director of the new program.
Students will be able to explore the program in one of four areas: Community Development Process; Economic Development; Local Government Organization and Operations; and Program Development and Planning.
Applicants must have at least two years of relevant experience in community and rural development for acceptance into this program. For information on the academic details, contact the Community and Rural Development Institute, 48 Warren Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca NY 14853-6701. E-mail:
