Cornell Cooperative Extension sets up disaster relief and resources World Wide Web site
By Blaine Friedlander
To help those affected by the recent ice storm in upstate New York and New England, Cornell Cooperative Extension has set up a World Wide Web site called Disaster Relief Resources.
Featuring resources to use in the recovery effort, the web site includes links to the electronic locations of pertinent government agencies: American Red Cross Disaster Services, DisasterRelief.org, Emergency Preparedness Information eXchange (EPIXS), Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), FEMA For Kids, Global Emergency Management Information Network Initiative, the Global Health Disaster Network, National Hazards Center (University of Colorado, Boulder), New York State Emergency Management Office and the Northeast States Emergency Consortium.
In addition to the links, the web site also includes information on a variety of subjects such as food safety during natural disasters, as well as how to speed recovery and minimize suffering following a disaster.
The page was developed by Thomas A. Scott, a consultant with the Cornell College of Human Ecology; Cheryl Frank, an editor in Cornell Media Services; Robert L. Feldman, director of Information Services, Cornell Cooperative Extension; and Soneeta Grogan, Cornell Cooperative Extension program leader for Nutrition, Health and Safety.
