General Electric chief financial officer to deliver Durland Lecture April 1
By Darryl Geddes
Dennis D. Dammerman, senior vice president and chief financial officer of General Electric Co., will deliver the 1998 Durland Lecture Wednesday, April 1, at Cornell University.
Dammerman, who has been the CFO since 1984, will present "Changing GE: Lessons Learned Along the Way" at 4:30 p.m. in Schwartz Auditorium of Rockefeller Hall. In addition to his lecture, Dammerman will participate in a luncheon with the Johnson Graduate School of Management's Park Fellows and speak to a class on mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance.
Dammerman joined GE in 1967 after graduating from the University of Dubuque. He has held positions with the GE corporate audit staff and in GE Lighting Business. In 1976 he joined GE Capital Services as manager of corporate financial analysis, and in 1978 he was named manager of operations analysis for GE's consumer products businesses.
He also has held vice president positions in GE Capital Services, Commercial Financial Services, and Real Estate and Financial Services divisions.
In June 1994 Dammerman was named chairman and chief executive officer of Kidder, Peabody Group Inc. while retaining his post as chief financial officer of GE. Seven months later, after the sale of Kidder Peabody to Paine Webber was completed, Dammerman returned full time to his GE post.
A trustee of Fairfield University, Dammerman is a former president of the Financial Accounting Foundation.
The Durland Lecture, coordinated through the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, is given annually by a major business executive. Roy H. Park, the late chairman of Park Communications Inc., and a small group of donors initiated the lectures to honor former Cornell Treasurer Lewis H. Durland.
Past presenters have included Abby Joseph Cohen, managing director at Goldman, Sachs & Co.; Kenneth T. Derr, chairman and chief executive officer of Chevron Corp.; and Lou Noto, chairman and chief executive officer of Mobil Corp.
