Nathan Fawcett to focus on Cornell statutory policy and strategy in new post

Nathan Fawcett, who has served as Cornell University director of statutory college affairs for the past 10 years, has been promoted to associate vice provost for statutory college affairs.

"I made this appointment so that Nathan may devote his full-time efforts to working with me and the statutory college deans in support of policy and strategy formulation for the statutory colleges and our relationship with the State University of New York (SUNY) and New York state," Cornell Provost Don M. Randel said.

The Statutory College Finance and Business Services Office, under Director John Lambert, now reports to Carolyn Ainslie, Cornell vice president of budget and planning. While Lambert's office will maintain working relationships with the statutory deans and Fawcett, it will come under the umbrella of the comprehensive planning and budget activities of the Ithaca campus, Randel added.

"These position changes and organizational realignments underscore the importance Cornell is placing on the long-term direction of its relationship with SUNY and New York state," Fawcett commented. "I look forward to focusing increased portions of my time and efforts in support of Provost Randel, President Rawlings, the statutory college deans and our trustees as they pursue the important policy issues facing Cornell in the years ahead."

Fawcett also will work closely with Vice President for University Relations Henrik N. Dullea and Stephen Philip Johnson, executive director of government affairs, in interactions with state and federal legislators, officials and agencies that involve the statutory colleges. He will help coordinate and provide support for efforts of various university vice presidents and directors responsible for key aspects of Cornell operations that interface with the state.

Fawcett came to Cornell in 1983 as director of statutory college finance and business operations after serving six years with the New York State Division of Budget. He was named director of statutory college affairs in April 1988.
