Cornell University, through the Public Service Center, is seeking applicants for participation in the echoing green foundation's 1999 fellowship program.

Echoing green, a non-profit foundation based in New York City, offers fellowships to individuals committed to social change from over 135 participating institutions for developing or establishing projects or organizations that will address specific social needs in their communities.

The foundation applies a venture capital approach to philanthropy, providing $30,000 in seed money and technical support to emerging social entrepreneurs who are working both domestically and internationally. Echoing green has more than 300 fellows creating innovative public-service organizations or projects that serve as catalysts toward positive social change. Fellows work in areas including, but not limited to, human rights, environmental issues, the arts, education, criminal justice and community development.

To be eligible for the fellowship program, applicants must be members of Cornell's current graduation class or must have graduated from the university within the past 10 years. Eligible individuals must apply through the Public Service Center, 200 Barnes Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853. Final applications, which will include biographical information and a full-length grant proposal, must be submitted to the center by Jan. 11, 1999.
