Vietnam Moving Wall comes to Cornell campus May 1 Traveling memorial to be displayed on the Agriculture Quad through May 5

The Vietnam Moving Wall will be displayed on the Agriculture Quad at Cornell University from Tuesday, May 1, through Saturday morning, May 5.

The public is invited to opening ceremonies for the Moving Wall on May 1 at 5:30 p.m. on the Ag Quad. Parking at no charge will be provided through Cornell Transportation Services in the parking garage next to Schoellkopf Field beginning at 4:30 p.m. Additonal parking will be available along Tower Road and the adjacent Alumni Fields parking lot.

The Moving Wall is a half-size traveling model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and it has been touring the United States for the past 16 years. The memorial pays homage to the more than 58,000 United States service men and women killed in the Vietnam War. The Moving Wall's visit to campus is sponsored through the Cornell Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality's "Sharing Our World" program.

Other related events on campus include:

  • Moving Wall walking tours, provided by the Cornell ROTC Scabbard and Blade Society from 1 to 1:45 p.m., May 2 and 3, and again from 5:30. to 6:15 p.m., May 4;
  • Moving Wall closing ceremony, 11:30 a.m., May 5, on the Ag Quad; and,
  • A Herbert F. Johnson of Museum of Art exhibit, "War and Peace," May 1-10.

In addition, Cornell ROTC units will host open houses for veterans of all wars and military conflicts, May 1-3, in Barton Hall, as follows:

  • May 1: Army veterans, 4:30-6 p.m.;
  • May 2: Navy and Marine veterans, 4:30 - 6 p.m.; and
  • May 3: Air Force veterans, 4:30-6 p.m.

Between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the week, visitors to campus can get parking instructions at the information booths at the main entrances to campus. At all other times, follow the signs to the Tower Road information booth near Stocking Hall and the Cornell Dairy Bar for posted parking instructions.
