Stephen Campbell is named associate vice president for facilities services

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Stephen M. Campbell, director of planning and project development at Johns Hopkins University, has been named associate vice president for facilities services at Cornell University, effective Oct. 27. He will be a senior member of the staff of Cornell Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer Harold D. Craft Jr., to whom he will report.

"I am very pleased that Steve has decided to come to Cornell," said Craft. "He is a very seasoned facilities professional with a deep understanding of large research universities. He has shown real skill in the areas of facilities leadership that will need special attention in the coming years."

Campbell will assume the position left open by the retirement of Henry Doney.

In his role as associate vice president at Cornell, Campbell will be in charge of providing major facilities services for the entire university campus in Ithaca. He will be responsible for planning, designing, constructing and maintaining university buildings, grounds and utility infrastructure and supervising the approximately 1,000 employees in the university's Division of Facilities Services. He also will serve as the senior staff contact and support for the Buildings and Properties Committee of the Cornell Board of Trustees. He will be a member of Cornell's Capital Funding and Priorities Committee and will serve on various campus and community committees involving administrators, faculty, students, trustees and Ithaca community members.

At Johns Hopkins University, Campbell is responsible for university-wide facilities planning, including campus development, building program, space allocation and capital budget processes. Prior to being named director of planning and project development at Johns Hopkins, Campbell had been associate director for planning and design for the university.

The sites he manages include five campuses in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., area and academic centers in China and Italy. The facilities management operation at Johns Hopkins is supported by a 250-person staff and an operating budget of $20 million.

Campbell received his bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Maryland in 1978 and a master of business administration degree from Johns Hopkins in 1994.
