Student-led Big Red Relief concert, April 3, benefits tsunami victims

ITHACA,NY - Cornell University has organized a massive benefit concert, "Big Red Relief," to raise money for victims of the December 2004 tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean. The concert, which will include an array of talented performers from across the Cornell campus, is Sunday, April 3, from 7-9:30 p.m. in the universitys Barton Hall. Everyone is welcome, and doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased at the Willard Straight Hall ticket office, Clinton House, Ithaca Guitar Works, Greenstar Co-op, and online at http://www.cornelltickets.com or http://www.ithacaevents.com. "Big Red Relief" benefit T-shirts are also for sale. They can be purchased at the tables outside Willard Straight Hall or by contacting Andrea Skinner (ajs96@cornell.edu). T-shirts are $5 if purchased before the event and $10 at the door. All proceeds from the event and T-shirt sales will go to UNICEF to aid tsunami relief efforts.

The event will showcase a diverse and talented range of student dance, a cappella, and performance groups, such as 211 Entertainment, The Chordials, Last Call, The Class Notes, The Chai Notes, Nothing But Treble, Sitara, Caribbean Students Association Dance Ensemble, BASE Productions, Shadows Dance Troupe, Jeff Spirko, Mad Dash, Moksha, Absolute Zero, Skits-O-Phrenics, the Big Red varsity gymnastics team, Thousands of One, and Ring of Steel.

Five restaurants near campus are also supporting "Big Red Relief" by providing food discounts to people who wear their "Big Red Relief" T-shirts to show support for the event. Those who wear their T-shirts on the following days at the following restaurants will receive great discounts: Thursday, March 31, at the Pita Pit and Smoothie Hut; Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, at the ABC Caf; Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 3, at Rulloffs Restaurant and Collegetown Bagels. Rulloffs, Collegetown Bagels, and the ABC Caf will be donating part of that weekends proceeds to the tsunami relief effort.
