Scholar offers 'A Tour of the Ethical Landscape,' April 19

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Anita L. Allen, author and University of Pennsylvania professor of law, will present a talk titled "A Tour of the Ethical Landscape," Tuesday, April 19, at 4:30 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium (Auditorium D) in Goldwin Smith Hall.

Allen is the author of The New Ethics: A Guided Tour of the 21st Century Moral Landscape (2004), named by Publisher's Weekly as one of the top nonfiction books of 2004.

She is co-author of the textbookPrivacy Law (West 2002) and author ofWhy Privacy Isn't Everything: Feminist Reflections on Personal Accountability (2003). Her book Uneasy Access: Privacy for Women in a Free Society (1988) was one of the first works devoted to a philosophical discussion of privacy and its value. She also has published more than 70 articles and essays. In addition Allen is recognized for her scholarship in the areas of jurisprudence, legal philosophy, law and literature, women's rights and race relations.

Allen received her doctorate in philosophy from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. She has lectured at major colleges and universities across the United States and in Europe. She has appeared on "Good Morning America," "ABC Nightline, Face the Nation," "60 Minutes," "Talk of the Nation" and on other broadcast media.
