Hasbrouck has housed undergrads before

To the editor:

In the photo that accompanies the article on Hasbrouck residents bracing for the arrival of undergrads in the March 23 Cornell Chronicle, the caption states that "Hasbrouck Apartments ... will house undergraduates for the first time ..." This is not correct. During the school year 1965-66, Cornell University agreed for the first time ever to allow female students in their senior year to live "off campus" in one unit at Hasbrouck Apartments. I know because I was one of those students and lived at Hasbrouck Apartments in the block of apartments that faces the golf course. At that time I don't remember any hue and cry about how this might "adversely affect the family-oriented community."

Of course, times have changed. We had to be in the dorms by 11 on weekdays and by midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
