By George Lowery
Marcus Borg, who recently retired as the Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University and an internationally known Jesus scholar, will speak at Sage Chapel's Homecoming service, Oct. 14, at 11:15 a.m.
A fellow of the Jesus Seminar (a group of scholars who examine the historical accuracy of the words and deeds attributed to Jesus), Borg has served as national chair of the Historical Jesus Section of the Society of Biblical Literature and co-chair of its International New Testament Program Committee and is past president of the Anglican Association of Biblical Scholars.
Several of Borg's 14 books, including "Jesus: A New Vision," "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time" and "The God We Never Knew," were best sellers. His work has been translated into nine languages. He has appeared on many television shows and is a columnist for Beliefnet.com.
Borg's visit is co-sponsored by Cornell United Religious Work and the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca, where he will give three lectures, Oct. 13.
