Joyce Cima, retired assistant secretary to the Cornell Board of Trustees, dies

Joyce White Cima '52, assistant secretary emeritus to the Cornell Board of Trustees, died Feb. 29 at her home in Lansing, N.Y.

In her tenure of 37 years working at Cornell, Cima assisted six board chairs, five executive committee chairs, four presidents and five secretaries of the corporation. She was assistant secretary to the board of trustees from 1972 to 1998.

Born in Ithaca, Cima retired in 1998 from the university. She was an active retiree participating in many university events, including university-sponsored birding trips, hockey games and volunteering at the Alpha Xi Delta sorority house.

Cima is survived by three sons and six grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 315 N. Cayuga St., Ithaca, NY 14850, or to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
