Law professor Ron Goldstock '66 to head NY Harbor Waterfront Commission
By Susan S. Lang
Ronald Goldstock '66, Cornell adjunct professor of law, has been named to head the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor for a three-year term.
The commission investigates, deters, combats and remedies criminal activity and influence in the New York harbor. It also ensures fair hiring and employment practices at the various terminals within the harbor.
When former N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer nominated Goldstock in December, he said, "Mr. Goldstock has amassed invaluable expertise working in both the private and public sectors over the course of his 28-year career, battling racketeering and organized crime. His wide-ranging professional experience makes him the ideal candidate."
Goldstock has served as a consultant providing investigative services for corporate and individual clients, director of the New York State Organized Crime Task Force for more than 13 years, deputy inspector general and then acting inspector general of the U.S. Department of Labor, chief of the Rackets Bureau in the New York County District Attorney's Office, and consultant to the secretary of state of Northern Ireland, helping to control international organized crime. From 1975 to 1979, he directed an institute on organized crime that was located at the Cornell Law School.
Goldstock received an A.B. from Cornell in 1966 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1969. He is on the faculties of Cornell, New York University and Columbia law schools and will continue to teach during his appointment.
