Ithaca police find body of alumnus in Cascadilla Gorge; an apparent suicide
A 33-year-old Cornell alumnus was found dead in Cascadilla Gorge beneath the College Avenue bridge on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8.
Ithaca Police Department identified him as Jakub Janecka of Lake Ariel, Pa. He was a 1998 Cornell graduate.
Thomas Bruce, Cornell vice president for university communications, in a statement, said: "The Cornell community is saddened by the news of the apparent suicide of its alumnus Jakub Janecka on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Cascadilla Gorge. The investigation into this incident by Ithaca Police Department, with the assistance of Cornell Police, is still ongoing."
The police department asks anyone who witnessed the incident that led to Janecka's death to call the department at 272-3245 or 272-9973.
