Symposium to celebrate Harold Scheraga's 90th birthday

A symposium in honor of the 90th birthday of Harold Scheraga, Cornell's Todd Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and one of the founders of the fields of protein physical and computational chemistry, will take place Sept. 24 at Baker Lab. The event is free and open to the scientific community.

Prior to the symposium, on Sept. 23, an invitation-only dedication of the Scheraga-Burke Meeting Room, funded by Karen E. Burke '67, Ph.D. '73, and her husband, Peter John Goulandris, will be held on the fourth floor of the Physical Sciences Building.

"Harold Scheraga is a researcher of legendary stature," said symposium chair Shalom Rackovsky, a visiting scientist at Cornell. "The lecturers at the event are world leaders in protein science." Talks will be given by Charles Brooks III, University of Michigan; Jane Dyson and Peter Wright, Scripps Research Institute; Chris Floudas, Princeton University; Barry Honig, Columbia University; Robert Jernigan, Iowa State University; Jeffrey Skolnick, Georgia Tech; Dave Thirumalai, University of Maryland; and Gordon Hammes, Duke University.
