Students stage 'Terminus' at Schwartz Center
The Department of Theatre, Film and Dance will present "Terminus," a play by Mark O'Rowe that provides a vivid, triangular depiction of a single night in Dublin, Nov. 18-20 at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.
"Terminus" is composed of three interwoven monologues, each written in a scheme of "accidental rhymes." Director James Miller '12, an English and theater arts major, plays "C," a desperately lonely man (and sociopath) who sells his soul for the gift of singing -- only to find himself paralyzed by shyness and unable to put his gift to use. Miller's co-stars are Claire Stack '15 and Taylor Chew '12, who play "A" and "B" respectively.
"I first read this play while studying in Dublin and was immediately struck by O'Rowe's unique use of language and storytelling," said Miller, who has acted in several plays at Cornell, including "Our Town" and "The Cherry Orchard." "'Terminus' expands the boundaries of the monologue form -- drawing on the work of other Irish writers such as Samuel Beckett and Conor McPherson, while experimenting with multiple narratives, magical realism and rhyme."
Performances of "Terminus" are Nov. 18 at 4:30 p.m. and Nov. 19-20 at 6 p.m. in the Schwartz Center's Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $4 plus a $1 processing fee. Advance tickets are recommended; tickets and information are available at the Schwartz Center box office, 430 College Ave., between 12:30 and 4 p.m. weekdays; by calling 607-254-ARTS; or online at http://www.schwartztickets.com.
