President David Skorton sent the following letter today to Virginia Tech President Charles Steger:

On behalf of the entire Cornell community, I would like to express our deepest sympathies to the entire Virginia Tech community among whom we are proud to count many colleagues and friends. The further tragic loss of life on your cherished campus stands in stark contrast to the values, aspirations and accomplishments for which you are deservedly known. This sad event should remind us all of the sacrifices the men and women of our campus police make so that we may enjoy a peaceful environment in which to learn, discover and engage with the world. We at Cornell stand with you at this difficult moment.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy.
