Cornell Police seeks public's help in incident investigation
The Cornell University Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in gathering information about a reported bias-related harassment late Tuesday night, Aug. 21, on the university campus.
Cornell police are investigating the reported incident that occurred at the intersection of University Avenue and North Central Avenue at about 10:50 p.m. A Cornell student reported that he was walking north in the crosswalk on University Avenue near Central Avenue, when the occupant of a vehicle, traveling west on University Avenue, threw an egg out of a window, striking him. The victim also reported to police that he believed he heard the occupants yell epithets at him related to his Hispanic ethnicity. Cornell EMS personnel evaluated the victim at the scene, and no transport for medical treatment was necessary. He is receiving assistance and support from Cornell staff.
An immediate search of the area and interviews with the victim have not resulted in locating the vehicle or identifying suspects.
Cornell condemns, in the strongest terms, all actions that threaten the safety of its community members.
The Cornell police investigation is continuing. Police are asking to interview anyone who witnessed the incident or can help with any information related to the incident.
